Moving Forward Education is a tutoring and mentoring company dedicated to creating gender-specific learning environments that change the landscape of education. Due to this gender-specific learning philosophy, Moving Forward Education is comprised of Girls Moving Forward and Boys Moving Forward, each with the goal of specifically addressing the needs of each gender at differing age groups to achieve equality of education and opportunities for youth. Through engaging small-group instruction and intensive social/emotional support, our program leaves a lasting positive impression on our students’ lives and futures. Position Summaries:
The Tutor is responsible for providing mentorship and academic coaching for small groups of students to enable youth with the tools to become confident, successful, and responsible citizens.
The Lead Tutor is responsible for the overall management of their assigned classroom, providing leadership for both Tutors and students to ensure that youth are enabled with the tools to become confident, successful, and responsible citizens.
The Site Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of the school site, providing leadership for programs that enable youth to become confident, successful, and responsible citizens.
Salaries:
Tutor – Offers a minimum of $11/hr. Rate can increase D.O.E.
Lead Tutor – Offers a minimum of $13/hr. Rate can increase D.O.E.
Site Coordinator – Offers a minimum of $15/hr. Rate can increase D.O.E.
Schedule:
All positions that are currently being offered are part-time positions which have varying hours depending on your availability and the position you take with us. Generally, the positions offer 4-20 hours of work per week. Afternoon and evening availability is a must.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Currently attending or have graduated from a college or university.
• Proficient in a wide range of academic disciplines, especially Math and English Language Arts.
• Personable and approachable.
• Direct experience working with youth.
• Ability to work within a potentially high stress classroom environment.
• Familiar with basic computer software (Word, Internet Explorer, etc.)
• Reliable transportation
• Women and men of color, as well as bilingual candidates especially encouraged to apply.
General Tasks of All Positions -
Student Management:
• Effectively supports the implementation of MFE curriculum aligned with organization’s mission.
• Assures student comprehension of math and English language arts-based lessons.
• Ensures participation/involvement from all students in program.
• Proactively seeks out “teachable moments” and embraces social-emotional topic areas that are most relevant to and/or being discussed by students.
• Supports in the collection of student data, such as daily attendance.
• Enforces policies and rules governing students by using consistent and effective discipline techniques with students.
Administrative Support:
• Works collaboratively with staff on site to assure students’ needs are being met by program.
• Attends all mandatory staff meetings and trainings, as well as any required meetings on school site.
